Our Mission: To effect change through improved literacy

Academic Fun & Fitness Camp

Thank you for sixteen wonderful years!

Dear Families,

After sixteen years, we have decided to close the Academic Fun & Fitness Camp.  Every year, our Camp requires many hundreds of loving hours in order to provide the activities, curriculum and staff that made the camp special, as well as to meet with and approve 50 to 55 campers with unique personalities.

The Creative Education Institute (CEI) is actively working to transform the way children learn to read and how teachers teach reading.  This project requires great focus and an extraordinary time commitment.  Our partner on this project is CEO Eric Gordon of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

This past summer, we filmed the pilot program with our video production provider.

Sammy and the Magical Reading Chest is the title of the 77 episode series.  Each episode is just 3 to 5 minutes in length and features puppets, animation and children.  The series is designed for children in Pre-K though Grade 2.  You can watch the pilot video online at https://www.cei4learning.org.  (Scroll halfway down the page.)

CEI’s first mission is to effect change through improved literacy.  The camp worked toward that goal during its sixteen years.  However, we have determined that we cannot effectively do the camp and the video series at the same time.

We are very sad to be ending this long run of the Academic Fun & Fitness Camp.  We have met hundreds of wonderful children, parents, and school staff members.

We wish all of our campers success in finding new and exciting camp opportunities.

Sincerely,

Carole Richards
Executive Camp Director
